Where does your honey come from?

Our honey comes from our 85+ hives in Matthews, North Carolina. We maintain the hives, extract, and bottle all of the honey we sell. We only sell honey from our hives.

Yes! Honey has many health benefits. It is rich in nutrients and antioxidants, as well as having antibacterial properties. Check out this Healthline article written by a registered dietician for a good overview. Although it is not scientifically proven, many people report that local honey has been helpful for their allergy symptoms. The beneficial properties of honey can be degraded by heat, so it should not be heated beyond what is needed to liquify it if it is crystallized in order to attain the maximum health benefits. Honey should never be microwaved.

Yes, children under 1 year old should never have honey because it can make them very sick.

Does honey go bad?

No! Honey lasts indefinitely. Unpasteurized honey will crystallize with time and cooler temperatures, but it can be easily decrystallized!

Help! My honey is crystallized!! How do I fix it?

Accepted Answer

To decrystallize honey, place the jar in warm (not boiling) water or in a warm place like by a sunny window. Only warm honey to the point that it is liquified and never microwave it because this can degrade the nutrients.

I learned everything I know about beekeeping from the Mecklenburg County Beekeepers Association! I attended their bee school to learn the basics and was paired with an incredible beekeeper mentor, who continues to teach me new things years later. I cannot say enough good things about this group and highly recommend checking out their site and joining a meeting if you are local to the area. For folks outside the Mecklenburg County area, connecting with your local beekeepers association is a great place to start.
